MyMicroGallery is pleased to announce “Structure Versus Bliss” the first solo exhibition in Italy by U.S. Californian artist Lauren Banuvar. The exhibition brings together a selection of eighteen works, acrylics on canvas, conceived and executed specifically for the gallery space.
The title “Structure Versus Bliss” explores a deep and universal tension, the contrast between order and freedom, control and abandonment, rationality and intuition. Contrasting forces, two opposite but interdependent poles, reflected in many aspects of artistic creation and life. “Structure” i.e., the Logos structure of thought as a foundation, a grid for containing emotions, and ‘Bliss,’ Pathos understood here as bliss, as pure joy and creativity. Between these poles the whole creative process of Lauren Banuvar moves.
The effects of art on the psyche and body are innumerable, Lauren Banuvar draws on her creative vein as a force for communicating her state of well-being, which is manifested when she directly experiences, without barriers, the flow of her imagination. For in addition to cognition, the physical and emotional effects of artistic experience can improve health, harmony, and well-being. Color and form can uniquely bypass the rational mind, deconstruct obsolete belief systems, resynchronize the rational mind with the imagination, to enable a shift in perspective. To this end, his painterly work explores the somatic and psychological resonance of color harmonies, the sensation imparted by gesture, and the creativity and cognitive flexibility experienced when bringing subconscious experience to the surface of consciousness with the language of symbols.
For Lauren Banuvar, imagination is the place of creation, from which all things come, and her intention is to create works that physically, mentally, and emotionally benefit individuals and the community and are a transformative force for communicating good.
This ethical impulse characterizes his research, which also has the rebellious and creative aspect of graffiti art, affirming an authentic and unmediated voice.
His “tags” become images with which to construct stories, symbols that refer to an emotional journey of his own. Flowing forms in bright colors, narratives that mark and emphasize the propulsive centers of energy , tell of a sacredness extended to nature to objects, people and things.
Her are primal gestures, spontaneous and free. They cross and trace the routes where the ‘artist can be free to express herself. But not everything is random. There is, in fact, the intention to tell a symbolic story, in which what counts is the urgency of expressing oneself , but also the need to give one’s emotions a presence, a place where one can give voice to imperfection, which can be read as a return to the essential, to the game to the truth of one’s own work. The stylized figures and the doodle-like sign merge and create a single language, a psychic automatism that is made conscious by the intention to express joy, Structure versus Bliss, endlessly rewriting a personal alphabet.
Lauren Banuvar lives and works in California. Lauren Banuvar is a visual artist and works in the mediums of acrylic and oil painting, photography, video art and film, ranging between realism, surrealism and impressionism, with frequent combinations of all three.
Her works are part of important private collections including: Danny Elfman, Larry Smith in Tokyo, Onassis Foundation Los Angeles, Daniel Lanois, John Hopkins University. In Italy she is represented by MyMicroGallery.
